Anti-Racism
Anti-racism starts with EDUCATION.
I am alarmed and saddened that racist incidents are occurring today, in 2021. I heard just yesterday of a racist incident involving a school in this Ward. There is no place for racism in our society or in our schools. I am horrified that all three of my children have been witness to acts of intolerance either at school or on their journey to school. Racism is unfortunately real today. This has to stop.
How do we as a society work to stamp out racism? It starts with EDUCATION.
A new Anti Racism and Equity Policy was approved by the board in June 2021. This is just a beginning and requires refinement, implementation, and measurement.
Children and adults need tools to respond, speak up, and demonstrate anti-racism. Our schools play a critical role in this education so we can all build our skills in ANTI RACISM.
